Let’s Discuss Neural Prolotherapy and How It Works

Neural Prolotherapy (NPT), also known as perineural therapy, is a superficial injection of a dextrose solution along subcutaneous nerves.

In other words, this treatment is beneficial for patients who suffer from nerve-related pain.

How It Works:

The sugar injection works by blocking certain pain-generating receptors and helps heal any nerve damage that might be present.

These injections may only go into the subcutaneous tissue (just beneath the skin), but they have an effect on the deeper structures such as the muscles, ligament, and tendons.

What may be the reason for this? It’s because everything is connected! Therefore, the nerves start in the deeper structures and go to the surface.

Furthermore, if you help the nerves near the surface, that benefit should span the entire length of the nerve and help pain down below.

Injection Prolotherapy Is Beneficial For Patients Who Suffer From The Following:

  • Acute strain or sprain
  • Whiplash injury
  • Severe knee, joint, wrist, ankle, or shoulder pain
  • Chronic low back pain
  • Mild to chronic migraines
  • Chronic hamstring strain
  • Chronic achilles pain
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
