ICBC ACCIDENT BENEFITS
If you’ve been injured in a motor vehicle accident (MVA), You are eligible for 12 pre-authorized acupuncture treatments with a Registered Acupuncturist, and 12 Massage Therapy treatments With a Registered Massage therapist within 12 weeks of the MVA.
As of April 1, 2019, ICBC introduced their new 'care-based' model and have increased their accident benefits from $140,000 to $300,000.
If you're in an accident, even if you're at fault, ICBC will cover the cost of your injuries. ICBC has made it clear that they support early intervention by pre-approving benefits without a doctor's referral over 90 days from the date of the accident. As long as you initiate care during this period, a physician's referral is not required.
ICBC only needs a claim number to initiate your care. We also recommend consulting a personal injury lawyer right away. Many of which will work on a contingency basis.
A great ICBC personal injury law firm in Vancouver is Neumann & Associates Law Corporation. We highly recommend them!
Beyond 90 days (or after all treatments are exhausted, whichever comes first), ICBC will require a referral and/or report to possibly extend benefits. In addition, to support the physiotherapist's care plan, ICBC will provide up to $740/week wage loss benefits.
The physical toll of having to manage a home can be mentally and physically exhausting and many times, not at all possible after an accident. Things such as cleaning your stove, fridge, floors, bathtub may be physically impossible for you to do. ICBC has introduced another accident benefit that will assist you called their 'Homemaker Benefit' that authorizes up to $280 / week to help you clean your home. Molly Maid is an ICBC approved cleaner that direct bills to ICBC. We recommend though that you get approval first through your ICBC personal injury lawyer before accessing this benefit.
