Ozone therapy refers to the process of administering ozone gas into the body to disinfect or treat an ailment or disease. Ozone is a colourless gas and can be used to treat medical conditions by disrupting unhealthy processes in the body and stimulating the immune system, therefore encouraging the body to heal itself. It can be administered either orally, directly to the tissue, intravenously, and intramuscularly.
Studies have shown ozone therapy to be effective in treating infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeast, and protozoa. It also helps flush out infected cells, allowing the body to then produce new healthy ones. Ozone therapy can be instrumental in treating breathing disorders, immune disorders, and even diabetes.
This treatment produces a similar result to corticosteroid treatment but is a better option for chronic pain. While corticosteroid treatment is appropriate for short-term pain treatment (eg: a sprain) – it decreases in effectiveness over time and can lead to further damage. Ozone therapy, on the other hand, not only produces lasting effects but is not harmful when used continuously, so you can be comfortable repeating this treatment until you are healed.
