After graduating from UBC with a Bachelor’s in Human Kinetics and minor in Nutritional Science, Gerissen moved to Portland to obtain his Doctorate of Chiropractic, as well as a Bachelor in Human Biology.
In high school, he injured his back playing ultimate frisbee, and had persistent back pain for several months. It effectively took him out of paddling on the dragon boat team for that season. He was frustrated at not being able to participate in something that he was passionate about, and that motivated him to help others avoid similar predicaments.
His first line approach to recovery is movement and exercises, and likes to supplement with manual therapy and chiropractic adjustments. He believes that often our bodies don’t feel well because we don’t necessarily move well. By addressing the root cause of the problem, Gerissen sets out to work together with patients to overcome their pain and help them return to what they want to do.
His hobbies include paddling, hiking, and working out. When he's not outside, he likes to play board games and eat dessert, often at the same time.
